Whether you choose to spend your time relaxing on a beach, being in the surf or climbing from one rock pool to the next, I think it's safe to say that we all just love spending time enjoying the Cornish coastline! For those that wouldn't mind exploring it a little bit more, I thought that I'd share some of the best coastal walks that you're sure to enjoy a lot!
Here's a list of our top five favourite coastal walks in Cornwall!
Porthcothan to Treyarnon, to Constantine
With soft sand, sheltering cliffs and awesome coastal walks, Porthcothan Bay has it all. The walk to Treyarnon is a couple miles long and only takes about an hour. Follow the cliff edge (with caution of course) and make sure to admire the beautiful coves, interesting sea stacks and turquoise waters along the way!
Once you find yourself at Treyarnon, it's only a short way to Constantine Bay. Here, you can explore the sand dunes and walk the length of the long stretching beach to Boobys Bay, where you might find the remains of a shipwreck if the tide's right!
Porthcothan Bay To Bedruthan Steps
Alternatively, you could follow the coastal path on the left side of Porthcothan. You'll soon come to Trescore Islands and, if it's low tide, a beautiful lagoon. Follow the coastal path further to find Porth Mear. This quiet cove is mostly covered in shingle and stone, so it's perfect for a bit of skimming!
Just the other side of Porth Mear is the iconic, impressive and awe-inspiring Bedruthan Steps. Here, rock stacks protrude high out of the sand, a cute cafe sits atop the incredible cliffs and a narrow set of stairs lead the way down to the beach below depending on the conditions and tide times.
Trevone Bay to Padstow
Another North Cornwall walk – I know! This one starts at Trevone Bay, where you'll quickly notice the “round hole” in the cliff top on your way down to the beach. From the bottom car park, you can get a closer look at the round hole by following the footpath along the cliff edge. Follow it further and you'll find a series of coves and small, rocky outcrops until you get to Tregudda Gorge. Here, you'll see a really interesting sea stack and even some smuggler tunnels cut into the cliff!
From there, you can follow the cliff path round to Stepper Point and then on to Hawkers Cove, or you could choose the shorter route that involves the road. Either way, you will want to visit Hawkers Cove for the unbelievable views of Daymer Bay and the River Camel. Then, you can take the coastal path to Padstow via the untouched and unspoilt Tregirls Beach.
Lizard Point To Mullion
The Lizard Peninsula is a particularly beautiful area in Cornwall. The National Trust carparks at Lizard Point will allow you to check out Polpeor Cove and the old lifeboat station, as well as the lighthouse and heritage centre!
From Lizard Point, Kynance Cove shouldn't take more than a hour to get to. The white sand of the cove contrasts against the truly unique cliffs to create an unbelievable and unmissable sight! The cafe is nice to! The walk from Kynance Cove on to Mullion can take around two hours and it does not disappoint! It's definitely a must for any lover of the Poldark TV show!
Sennen To Land's End, To Porthcurno
A list of Cornwall's best coastal walks wouldn't be complete without a mention of Land's End. However, this walk actually starts at the wonderful, small town of Sennen. Whether you're surfing, sunbathing or just sightseeing, Sennen is well worth a visit. Better yet, if you walk from Sennen to Land's End, you're sure to see the Mayon Cliff Shipwreck!
Once you reach the Land's End Visitor's Centre, you're not far off from my favourite view of the whole walk and a very impressive rock arch. Then, it's on to Nanjizal Beach and eventually on to Porthcurno via the Minack Theatre!
